On February 10th, the Blackshear Bassmasters held their monthly club tournament on Lake Eufaula. Conditions in the Florence Marina area were as follows: The lake elevation was 188.12. The surface temperature was between 49 and 52 degrees. The water was stained in the river as well as the major creeks. The fishing proved to be extremely tough in the Florence area with one of the lowest catches in club history. The predominant pattern consisted of targeting suspended fish in the river or major creek channels with a crankbait. First place went to Dwayne Smith with 3 fish weighing 4 pounds and 9 ounces. Carl Daniel claimed second place and big fish with one fish weighing 4 pounds and 7 ounces. Mike O'Conner rounded out the top three with one fish weighing 4 pounds and 2 ounces. The fishing was much better down the lake with several limits being caught in a buddy tournament out of Lakepoint, and a couple of stringers going over 16 pounds. The information from competitors in that tournament is that a lot of the fish were caught in grass beds in less than 6 feet of water.
